OUR LOVE STORY
Fast Forward to 2002 when I started High School and met a group of ladies I am lucky enough to still know and call friends and one of them family! When I started high school I decided to switch it up from my cheerleading ways and join the JV dance team. Although, I never made varsity dance some of the girls were still sweet enough to befriend me. This is when I met a girl named Allison and, little did we know, we’d one day become sister-in-laws. If you haven't figured it out by now, yes, Allison has an older brother who caught my eye. Let me back track a bit though to help you better understand how Brett went from “annoying” to “handsome”.
Allison and my friendship quickly blossomed and we went from just friends to best friends. More often than not one of us was always inviting the other to go on a family trip or have a sleep over. Well, being an only child, I was not used to having siblings around. So when I would be at Allison’s house and her older brother ,Brett, would be there. I thought he was so annoying and thanked the heavens I didn't have to deal with that at home. Being a typical teenager I would go home and complain to my mom that he was constantly bugging and teasing us. Until one day that changed and things shifted.
Brett is 3.5 years older than Allison and me so when I first met him we weren't cool enough to be associated with outside of the house. Then one day that changed! Moms reading this part close your ears! I don't remember exactly how things shifted but one night during our senior year a friend’s mom was going out of town and we thought it would be a good idea to have a small house party. Well, we had one problem- we were too young to buy alcohol. Cue in Brett and his buddies and this is when it all started! Next thing I know Brett and I are chatting and I’m noticing he's not so annoying after all. Fast forward to the next house party and without even having to ask, you guessed it, Brett and his buddies were back! We immediately started hanging out and before I knew it he kissed me and the rest is history. I was no longer going home telling my mom how annoying he was, but instead how handsome and sweet he was!
2006 was the year our relationship really started. I graduated from High School that year and Brett and I were pretty much inseparable. We even both ended up going to Cal State Fullerton where he studied Finance and I studied Communications. He ended up living in an apartment in Fullerton with some friends. This time was a true test for out relationship. Him living in Fullerton while I was still in Rancho Cucamonga, but as well as him being 21 and me 18 challenged us, but in the end it only made us stronger.
Having survived living in different cities and hurdling a few bumps we still only had eyes for each other. In 2010 Brett graduated from CSUF and I followed in 2012. So if you do the math brett and I had now been together for 6 years, and me being a girl, as I am sure many can relate, I was wondering when the heck he was going to propose. Little did I know, my very organized boyfriend, already had a plan! He had picked out a ring about a year before I graduated and told all our close friends and family that he was going to ask me to marry him on our trip to the east coast. I was the last to know and completely surprised when he got down on one knee in front of the Jefferson Monument in Washington, DC. I didn't even catch on when our two best friends, Adam and Erica, were having me pose alone to take a “group picture”. This very hot and humid day in June turned out to be the best day of my life! Our trip quickly turned into not only a celebration of being college graduates, but also to starting the next chapter of our lives, marriage!
